The DMV (DC/Maryland/Virginia) area is large to some and small to others. You can get to a lot of the key places within an hour or so – if you pick the right travel time. This makes the area ideal for exploring and grabbing a bite to eat – especially when it comes to brunch. When I was home for the holidays, I spent a lot of time at brunch at some of my favorite spots in Maryland and D.C.. Now I’m sharing them with you!
I wrote a blog post last year about my favorite brunch spots in Varna, Bulgaria – because that is where I am now. However, since I go home for the holidays every year, I take advantage of some of my favorite brunch spots in Maryland and D.C. Pretty much nothing beats them. All of them are relatively close to each other, with the exception of one which is a bit of a drive, but totally worth it. Here they are!
La Boqueria – Washington, DC (Penn Quarter and Dupont)
If you like brunch food, tapas, and a European vibe, La Boqueria is the restaurant for you. They have an amazing brunch menu (and a regular one) and of course, the best part is that it is BOTTOMLESS. Yup, for only $42 you can eat all of the food and drink all of the Sangria, Mimosas, and/or Leche de Panteras (vodka coffee) that you want! (Keep in mind you have 2.5 hours to do so.)
The food comes tapas style and you have a few different options ranging from salty to spicy and of course, sweet. From fried calamari to crispy potatoes (patatas bravas), grilled steak and eggs (huevos con Bistec), and even chocolate churros for dessert!
There are two locations, one in Penn Quarter and the other in Dupont. Their brunch is available on Saturdays and Sundays from 10:30AM to 2:00PM.
Pinstripes – Pike and Rose, North Bethesda, MD
This is a bowling alley, bar, and restaurant in one. On Saturdays, Pinstripes has a standard brunch menu full of really tasty options, but I recommend going on Sundays because that is when you have the brunch buffet. You can load up your plate with so many different foods and go back for seconds, thirds, and more.
For the brunch buffet on Sundays, you can choose either the $40 option which includes bottomless mimosas or $34 without the mimosas.
But it's brunch, have a mimosa!
You have everything you can think of as far as brunch food goes. You can make your own bagel or have a chef make you a fresh omelet. The best part of it all is the dessert. There is not only a table full of DELICIOUS deserts, but there is also a chocolate fondue station.
Matchbox – Maryland, DC, and Virginia
The menus at Matchbox can sometimes vary by location as they have 13 of them all around the DMV. My local Matchbox is in Rockville and they have an unlimited brunch menu that is amazing. You can probably tell by now that I have a thing for unlimited brunches and I have no shame in admitting it.
This is yet another restaurant that serves the brunch tapas style. However, when you think of tapas, you normally think of small plates of delicious food. At Matchbox, that’s only half true. Yes, the food is delicious, but the plates are not small. The absolute best part about the unlimited brunch at Matchbox is that it is totally worth your money. The portions are quite large.
For about $32, you can enjoy unlimited brunch at Matchbox and you can add on $3 mimosas or other drinks of choice.
AJ’s on Hanover – Baltimore, MD
I went to university in Baltimore – Towson to be more specific – which is why I spend a lot of time there, even after I graduated. I have friends that live in the area and guess what?
We brunch in Baltimore.
One of my favorite little restaurants is AJ’s on Hanover. I actually haven’t been here many times, but it has made my list because of how delicious it is. I want to try their whole menu.
Unfortunately, they don’t have unlimited brunch options, but they do have bottomless mimosa options! I also highly recommend their Blueberry Ricotta Pancakes!
AJ’s on Hanover is located close to the Baltimore Ravens Stadium so it is a perfect spot to go to before or even after a game — whether it is for brunch, dinner, or for a drink.
Believe it or not, my mouth is watering and my stomach is growling from just writing this blog and looking at these pictures of my brunch food. I hope you guys try out at least one of my favorite brunch spots in Maryland and DC!
Be sure to tell me what you think!
