So you know the whole social distancing thing? Well, it has caused me to stay home for the past 2 weeks and what have I done? I’ve baked cookies, watched an excessive amount of Netflix shows and movies, and of course I’ve scrolled through social media for hours. While scrolling, I came across this new “Whipped Coffee”or “Dalgona Coffee” trend that’s very popular on TikTok.
It seemed too good to be true to do by hand at home. I was skeptical and I really didn’t think that it would work. I checked my coffee cabinet and I found some instant coffee and decided to try it out! After all, it’s a pretty simple recipe so why not experiment? I’ve got nothing better to do…literally.
Here’s How to Make Whipped Coffee
The ingredients are minimal and you can get as creative as you want. I actually ended up making this whipped coffee drink a couple of times so far and I have tried a few different variations – all of which have tasted so good!
Ingredients for Whipped Coffee
- Instant Coffee
- Hot Water
I used hazelnut flavored instant coffee since that is my favorite. I also typically have almond milk or hazelnut milk. (Yes, I do have an obsession with anything hazelnut.) Sometimes I will add a sprinkle of cinnamon on top of the coffee so that’s an idea, too! Like I said, there are so many variations to make this, you just need to have the 4 ingredients above!
- Add equal parts instant coffee, sugar, and hot water to a bowl. The bowl should be large enough to hold the mixture, but small enough so that it is easy to mix. The ideal amount is 2 tablespoons of each ingredient for 1 coffee drink.
- Mix the ingredients using a whisk. You will have to do this for about 10-15 minutes or until you get stiff-ish peaks. You can use a mixer if you like, but I don’t have one so I experimented old-school… it works! The more you whisk the more you will notice the color lighten and it will eventually get to a cloud-like consistency.
- Once you reach stiff-ish peaks, grab a glass and add some milk. You will top off the milk with the whipped coffee mixture.
- Mix it a bit with your straw and enjoy!
Whipped coffee has a really simple recipe and it tastes great! It also pairs great with my Oreo chocolate chip cookies, so try that recipe out, too!
This is actually a coffee drink that people have made for years, but it is gaining popularity once again!
Let me know if you tried it and how you liked it!
You’ll probably get a few more recipes from me while I am self-quarantining during this coronavirus COVID-19 outbreak so stay tuned!
